Navigating the College, Career, and Community Readiness Definition
On April 10, 2015, Hawaii P-20 Partnerships for Education held the Hawaii College Access Network Conference – Navigating the College, Career, and Community Readiness (CCCR) Definition at the Kroc Center Hawaii. The conference provided opportunities for over 120 professionals in the college access field to explore ways to operationalize the CCCR definition in their communities. Breakout sessions focused on discovering the roles individuals’ play when determining what it means for Hawai‘i students to be college, career, and community ready. The focus for the conference was on transitioning from theoretical to the practical aspects of the CCCR definition.
The conference keynote speaker was Matt Coleman, D.Ed., Executive Director & Chief Academic Officer of the Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) based in Oregon. Dr. Coleman worked at every level of the secondary education system. He served as an educational assistant, a middle school teacher, high school teacher, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal, Director of Secondary Education and an Assistant Superintendent. In his administrative roles, Dr. Coleman supported significant change resulting in improved outcomes for all kids – with a positive, differential impact on students who have been historically underserved. In recognition of his service to Springfield Public Schools, Dr. Coleman received the 2014 Excellence in Achievement Award from the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators.
